Curriculum
Ballet is an exciting and inspiring form of dance. Our Pre Primary Ballet class is a fun, and active class primarily for children over 3 years of age. We encourage the children to develop a sense of imagery, setting a simple scenario for each exercise to assist with their memory to make it more enjoyable for them.
As the children progress through the grades, performance and technique begin develop as maturity and confidence grows.
Modern is a diverse form of dance combining modern dance, jazz and other dance styles.
At Grade 1 standard the children’s work is based on natural movements: walking, running, skipping and jumping. The syllabus has been carefully designed to encourage a rapid response from beginners. From Grade 4 standard, the students are encouraged to a free work jazz class which solely concentrates on improving flexibility and technique.
Tap is an enjoyable form of recreational dance. Its rhymical style is defined by the use of movement which is explored through the grades.
The school follows the I.S.T.D. syllabus, with classes from Grade 1 through to Grade 5 standard.
At the earlier stages the children are encouraged to develop rhythm through their dance, this leads to a good sense of style and technique as they progress through the grades.
Jazz is a dynamic form of modern dance and is a free work class meaning no syllabus is followed.The children are able to express a style of dance which is current within their peer groups as a variety of chart music is used which makes this a popular class. From Grade 4 Modern standard, participation in Jazz is encouraged.
Technique focuses on improving dance ability and technique. This class is by invitation and compulsory for all children competing in festivals. This class combines ballet, jazz, limbering and stretching principles.
Adult Classes are currently only available in St Albans. We offer intermediate and advanced standard Tap. Our intermediate class enables the class to learn at a pace that is comfortable for all. Advanced tap requires a high standard of previous knowledge. This class work on a combination of the ISTD Grade 6, Intermediate and Advanced 1 syllabus.
